Urgent Repairs Needed After Storm Damage
Shelter Them Early Childhood Development Center – Bugesera, Rwanda
A recent severe storm caused significant damage to several buildings at the Shelter Them Early Childhood Development Center (ECD) in Bugesera, Rwanda. Strong winds tore roofing structures from key facilities, leaving essential spaces unsafe for children and staff.
Thankfully, no one was injured. However, parts of the center are currently unusable and require urgent repairs to restore a safe environment for the children. Storms like these are not common at all so everyone was caught off guard by what was wrecked.
The storm caused the following damage across the compound...
...The entire roof structure was blown off, with iron sheets carried nearly 200 meters away. The facility is currently unsafe and unusable for the children
...In the ECD Classrooms, the ceilings collapsed in two classes, affecting their learning spaces to become dangerous
...In the Headteacher’s Office, the ceiling was partially destroyed, creating an unsafe work environment for anyone
...At the boys’ Toilet (Community Center Area), he roof was blown off, leaving sanitation facilities exposed and clearly unsafe
...The newly built Cows House roof was displaced by strong winds, leaving livestock shelter exposed to weather and strong sun
...For the Community Center Entrance & Balcony, the entrance tent collapsed and the balcony ceiling was damaged creating big safety risks.
