We are excited as a team to be involved with Ngondo Orphanage.  With more than 40 children under its roof, you can be sure that this is no small task to keep Ngondo running smoothly.

Ngondo Orphanage started in 1995 by Annonciata and her husband after returning from Burundi after living there in exile due to the genocide.    Sadly in 2005, Annonciata lost her husband who unexpectedly died.  As you can imagine it was a huge task to take on by herself.  The connections, helpers and donors quickly dried up and left her struggling to keep the children alive.  Despite some random donors who would help out a little, Ngondo was hurting and could not keep going much longer.  Thankfully in 2008 some visiting Canadians came across Ngondo and fell in love with the children.

"Our hearts were torn,  we could not leave what we saw behind.  Someone had to help, so we did." - Lisa Norton

Since then, walls have been repaired, a septic system was installed, new windows and screens as well as a good painting of the place was accomplished.  But this is not where it ended, the generous Canadians led by Lisa Norton were able to raise funds to allow Annonciata to buy mattresses, benches, tables and clothing for the children.  Also, the children's education was finally paid for, so the ones that were old enough could go to school.

In 2009 Shelter Them met with Lisa and talked about supporting Ngondo.  Our role in this orphanage is the same as our 2 other programs, to provide a hope and a future to the homeless young ones of Rwanda.  We currently do the accounting, advise and oversee how and why things are done to ensure that what happens follows what we believe.

We thank all of you who support this cause as well as our homes and feeding programs.  As you can imagine it is costly to do what we have chosen to undertake, but we believe that good people like yourself will help and continue to support us.
